Each year fireworks are set off on November 5, also known as Bonfire Night or Guy Fawkes Night, to commemorate the failure of the Gunpowder Plot in 1605, which attempted to assassinate King James I.
As November 5 falls on a Wednesday this year, many of the displays in Havering are planned for the weekend before or after – although there are some hosted throughout the week.
Here are five fireworks displays taking place around Bonfire Night this year.
Romford House Care Home, Harold Hill – November 5
Romford House Care home in Neave Crescent is offering a free display from 6pm-8pm on Wednesday, November 5.
Residents, families, and community friends are all invited according to the home’s Facebook advert.
“Enjoy a safe, family-friendly firework display alongside warming seasonal refreshments, cosy seating, and a welcoming atmosphere,” it reads.
Marshalls Park Academy, Romford – November 7
The Friends of Marshalls Park Academy has organised a “spectacular evening” at its annual display on Friday, November 7.
The display will begin at 7.30pm where visitors can expect to be “amazed by dazzling lights and booming explosions lighting up the night sky”.
Tickets start at £7 for adults and £5 for children, and can be purchased via Eventbrite.
Harold Wood Primary School, Harold Wood – November 7
Harold Wood Primary School PTA is hosting a display in Recreation Avenue on Friday, November 7.
Gates open at 6.30pm and the display will begin at 7.30pm.
Adult tickets cost £7 with child tickets costing £5 and children under two going free.
Upminster Infant & Junior School, Upminster – November 8
On Saturday, November 8 Upminster Infant & Junior School is hosting a “spectacular” fireworks display at the school playing fields.
Tickets cost £8 for adults and £6 for children between 14-17 and gates will open at 4.30pm with the display beginning at 6.30pm.
There will be “lots of food options” including burgers, chips, donuts, sweets, and a hot chocolate stall as well as “the all important bar”.
The Coopers’ Company and Coborn School, Upminster – November 8
In St Marys Lane, The Coopers’ Company and Coborn School have organised a display on Saturday, November 8.
Tickets start from £8 for adults and £6 for children or £24 for a family deal (two adults and two children).
According to the advert, there will be live music, a barbecue and a bar.
