TOAD Bakery in Camberwell and Milk Run in Tooting are among three bakeries in the running to win in the Greater London category at this year’s National Bakery Awards.
The two bakeries join The Dusty Knuckle in the category along with 227 other nominees from across the UK, including the prestigious Harrods Bakery in Knightsbridge among them.
The awards will also recognise Social Enterprise Bakery of the Year, Young Baker of the Year, Outstanding Contribution to Bakery, and the ultimate title, National Bakery of the Year, with the awards ceremony set to take place on November 25 in London.
Milk Run, Tooting Bec
Opened just a year ago in 2024, Milk Run has a key focus on artisan pastries, sourdough breads and grab‑and‑go lunch options.
Some of the most popular items on the menu include their classic croissants, cruffins, and inventive toasties with flavours like mac & cheese and piri‑piri chicken.
Locals have also given the bakery high praise, with Milk Run earning a 4.7‑star rating on Google, with products like their mac & cheese toastie and banana‑cheesecake cruffin being among the most popular.
TOAD Bakery, Camberwell
One of south London’s most internet-famous bakeries, TOAD in Camberwell was founded by Oliver Costello and Rebecca Spaven in 2021.
The bakery has quickly gained a loyal following for its inventive pastries, including an Everything Bagel Croissant, yuzu‑orange Jaffa cakes, and seasonal laminated creations, alongside long‑fermented sourdough breads and specialty coffee.
