Finchampstead, in Berkshire, is just an hour and a half drive away from London via the M4.
Or you can take the train, which only takes 30 minutes via Wokingham from London Paddington.
The village was previously named as one of the best places to live in England by Muddy Stilettos in 2024.
In its annual list of the best places to live, Muddy Stilettos described Finchampstead as a “family-friendly haven”.
Sharing that it’s the perfect place for those “wanting to escape the city grind, but not keen on being out in the sticks”.
The picturesque chocolate box village, 30 minutes from London
Described by the outlet as a ‘chocolate box village’, Finchampstead has many features that make it so desirable.
One of the village’s most popular spots is the local Greyhound pub, a gastropub serving meals using seasonal local produce.
Finchampstead is also home to The Queen’s Oak, offering a classic pub atmosphere with a large beer garden.
Despite its size, the village has lots of great shops for locals to explore, with the daily goods store, Goswell & Birds Village Store and lifestyle brand Yuniku.
Describing the village community, Muddy Stilettos shares: “Finchampstead is a village with real community spirit.
“There’s an annual village summer fete complete with very British fare of strawberries and cream”.
Finchampstead’s main attractions are the Finchampstead Ridges and the 40-hectare California Country Park filled with scenic paths, a play park and even a paddling pool.
