Southwark Council has announced plans to make Marmont Road, near Harris Academy Peckham Park Primary School, a timed pedestrian and cycle zone.
This move is part of the council’s initiative to promote active travel measures, improve road safety, and enhance air quality around primary schools.
If the plans go ahead, all motor vehicles will be banned from entering or travelling through Marmont Road between Fenham Road and Goldsmith Road from 8am to 9am and 3pm to 4pm on Mondays to Fridays during term time.
Exceptions will apply for permit holders.
Permits will be offered to residents living within the zone, registered carers, blue badge holders who are school staff or carers or dropping off and/or collecting pupils to the school, and vehicles for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
Emergency vehicles will also be exempt from the restrictions.
The council is inviting feedback on these plans and anyone interested in the detailed proposals can contact the council’s Highways – Transport Projects team at Highways@southwark.gov.uk.
The supporting documents, proposed order, and plans showing the location and effects of the order can also be requested via email to traffic.orders@southwark.gov.uk.
Those wishing to make representations, either in favour of or objecting to the proposals, can do so by sending a written statement to traffic.orders@southwark.gov.uk by October 30, 2025.
The reference ‘TMO2526-022 SSP HA Peckham Park PS’ should be quoted in the correspondence.
Objections must clearly state the grounds on which they are made.
The council has warned that any communication sent in response to the notice may be subject to publication or disclosure under current access to information legislation.
As a result, it may be communicated to other persons affected by the proposed order.
This initiative is part of Southwark Council’s wider “School Streets” programme, aimed at making the areas around primary schools safer and cleaner for children.
The council aims to encourage road safety and improve air quality around schools.
