The project forms part of Harlow Council’s wider Build Harlow’s Future programme and marks the second step in the authority’s eight-step plan to rebuild the bandstand by next summer.
The newly appointed architect will work alongside the council, heritage groups, and the wider community to create a design that respects the bandstand’s history while delivering a modern, accessible, and resilient venue for future events.
Councillor Dan Swords, leader of Harlow Council, said: “The morning after the fire, I promised that we would rebuild the iconic bandstand ready for major events next summer – and we are delivering on that promise.
“The appointment of an expert architect marks the next step in our eight-step plan to restoring this much-loved landmark.
“We will create a new bandstand that honours Harlow’s heritage while providing a modern space for future generations to enjoy.
“This is about turning words into action.
“We are moving from recovery to renewal – rebuilding not just a bandstand, but a place that once again brings our community together.
“I hope many residents will also attend the ‘See you Soon’ event this Sunday to celebrate the bandstand’s past as we ready for its future.”
The original bandstand was destroyed in a fire at 1am on September 19.
Essex Police are treating the incident as arson.
In tribute to the bandstand and to celebrate Harlow’s musical heritage, a free event titled See You Soon will take place on Sunday, October 19, 2025, from 1pm to 7pm.
The event will be held outside the bandstand site and will feature performances by local musicians and bands.
It will serve as a celebration of the bandstand’s legacy and a look ahead to its future.
The new bandstand is intended to host major concerts, community gatherings, and large-scale performances once complete.
