Now, another London-born star is taking the world by storm after starring in some of Hollywood’s biggest movies in the last three years.
The award-winning David Jonsson began his career on London’s West End before wowing the world of TV and later breaking into the silver screen.
Recently, Jonsson led the cast of The Long Walk based on the Stephen King book, which earned him praise from critics and film fans alike.
The London actor taking Hollywood by storm
Jonsson grew up in Custom House in Newham, is the youngest of four with two older brothers and sisters, his father is an IT engineer, and his mother is in the Metropolitan Police force.
At 14, the actor was expelled from his school in east London, telling The Telegraph that he would often end up in fights, leading to several suspensions before being permanently excluded.
In 2023, Jonsson spoke to The Telegraph about his time at school, sharing: “‘My mum was sad, very disappointed to say the least.
“Being a police officer, she was not a fan.
“She was devastated because she worked really hard.
“She asked me what I was going to do with my life.
“It hit me so hard, because disappointing her is something I never want to do.”
Jonsson later ended up attending a school in West London, where he first found his love for acting.
After completing his GCSEs, the young star spent two years in New York attending the American Academy of Dramatic Arts.
Before returning to London, and joined the National Youth Theatre, leading him to win a scholarship to study at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Acting in 2016.
Jonsson’s career soon picked up after graduating; his first professional stage debut was in the play Mary Stuart before starring alongside David Tennant in Don Juan in Soho.
The actor later broke into TV, appearing as Gus in the HBO and BBC Two series Industry, before taking on the lead role of Luke Fitzwilliam in the BBC adaptation of Agatha Christie’s Murder is Easy.

In 2023, Jonsson starred in his feature film debut, Rye Lane, alongside Vivian Oparah, with the pair being nominated for Best Joint Lead Performance at the British Independent Film Awards.
A year later, the London-born actor starred in Alien: Romulus, which led him to win the 2025 BAFTA Rising Star Award.
