Woolwich Works has announced its programme of events for the Christmas period.
The events include a chance to meet Santa in the “Christmas Candy Grotto,” a cabaret variety show, a ceilidh dance, and a festive tale for children and families.
The Christmas Candy Grotto, described as “London’s boldest, most playful, and colourful grotto experience,” will return to Woolwich Works and will be open every weekend leading up to Christmas.
It will feature a sugar-coated grotto, candy-cane fence, and edible garden.
Other highlights of the programme include “Live At The Works with Russell Kane”, a comedy night headlined by the multi-award-winning comedian, and “Wing Wonderland”, the UK’s top chicken wing festival.
There will also be a Christmas special of the popular “Karaoke at The Works” which will be hosted by self-proclaimed cabaret legends, Binkie and Maud.
Events will continue with “Drag The Halls!”, a spectacular queer cabaret and variety show featuring London’s most sensational drag artists.
December 12 will see a lively Christmas ceilidh, featuring traditional folk music and dancing.
Woolwich Works’ resident artistic company, Chineke! Orchestra, will also bring some seasonal cheer to the Fireworks Factory with Chineke! Christmas.
The concert on December 19 features heart-warming carols, soulful songs and traditional tunes in a joyful celebration suitable for all ages.
Other events aimed at younger members of the family include the “End of Term Winter Party” also on December 19, a free drop-in celebration with music, dancing, and games, and a chance to join the Christmas “Crafternoon: A Kitschmas Celebration” on December 14, 21, and 22.
Liat Rosenthal, head of creative programmes at Woolwich Works, said: “December is always a special time at Woolwich Works, especially as the much-loved Christmas Candy Grotto will return to our Knight Gallery every weekend leading up to Christmas from 29 November onwards.
“This year we’re embracing the season with a programme full of festive magic.
“From the glitter and glamour of Drag The Halls to the uplifting Baby Gospel Christmas Special, and from the enchanting family ballet A Christmas Wish to the lively End of Term Winter Party that rounds off the festivities, there’s something for every age group.
“Throw some Christmas Karaoke into the mix and it’s the perfect way to wrap up a month of festive fun.”
