A casualty on the tracks was reported at Whitton railway station at around 10.50am today (October 7).
Officers and paramedics attended, and a person was taken to hospital with life-changing injuries.
All lines between Twickenham and Staines were closed as the incident was dealt with, however, it has since reopened.
Trains travelling through this area may still be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes or revised.
Major disruption is expected until 5pm.
The incident is not being treated as suspicious.
A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: “Officers were called to Whitton railway station at around 10.50am today (7 October) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
“Paramedics also attended, and a person has been taken to hospital with life-changing injuries.
“The incident is not being treated as suspicious.”
