Ibrahim Ahmed, of Field Way, was convicted yesterday (September 16) after a seven-day trial at Croydon Crown Court.
It follows after the landlord, in his 40s, was found by members of the public lying in the road near his home on February 2 this year.
The court heard that the victim returned home from work and Ahmed brutally . attacked him with a knife unprovoked on his doorstep.
Ahmed fled the scene, leaving the victim to look for help when he collapsed.
He had life-threatening stab wounds to the chest after being attacked, with one so severe it caused his lung to collapse.
Ahmed, 23, was arrested on February 4 and charged the day after with attempted murder.
He was remanded into custody until the start of his trial on September 8.
Sentencing is due to take place on December 18 at Croydon Crown Court.
Detective Constable Simona Stankute, who polices Croydon and led the investigation, said: “We hope today’s verdict will provide a sense of justice to the victim, who has shown exceptional bravery throughout this investigation.
“I’d like to thank the members of the public who rushed to the victim’s aid immediately after the incident – without them, it’s impossible to know what the victim’s condition would’ve been when emergency services arrived.”
