He was arrested on suspicion of murder.
The 33-year-old had been living in his dad’s home for a number of years before the murder.
Southwark Crown Court heard how Lambert’s behaviour had declined in the months before the deadly attack, becoming violent and aggressive to the point of being told to leave by Alban.
On the day of the incident, Lambert returned to the flat at 11.40am and was let inside by his dad, who struggled with his mobility.
It was reported in court that the reason for the visit was financial, with Lambert demanding £40.
At around 1.35pm Alban phoned his partner to state that his son was in his flat demanding money.
However, the phone call was abruptly cut off and Alban’s partner tried repeatedly to call him back.
The court heard how when refused, Lambert carried out a violent and fatal assault on his 78-year-old dad.
Various parts of the attack were captured on footage on a CCTV camera, with the majority of the attack being inflicted whilst Alban lay on the hallway floor.
Lambert was sentenced to 18 years’ imprisonment at Southwark Crown Court today (September 12).
Alban’s family paid tribute to him saying: “Mr Alban Lambert was deeply loved by all who knew him, in particular, his family and friends. He brought love and laughter to all around him.
“It is therefore immensely sad to find ourselves trying to comprehend the senseless tragic act which resulted in the loss of his life.
