On January 29 this year, Lloyds Banking Group announced that 61 Lloyds branches would be closed including the site in Station Lane which closed its doors for the final time today (September 11).
The company – which also owns Halifax and Bank of Scotland – plans to move further towards online banking.
A Lloyds spokesperson said: “As many customers now choose to bank through their app or online, visits to our Hornchurch branch have fallen over recent years.”
The Halifax branch in Brentwood High Street closed permanently for the same reason yesterday.
The spokesperson confirmed customers now have the option to use branches of any Halifax branch, such as the nearby Halifax branch in High Street for their in-person banking, alongside other options such as the Post Office, app, online and telephone banking.
Customers can also pay in cash at PayPoint locations using the app cash deposit feature.
The spokesperson added that the Post Office at 92 North Street offers personal and business customers everyday banking services, access to cash, paying in of cheques, and more.
In the closure statement in January, the bank said: “Before we close any branch, we look at how our customers are managing their money and using the branch.
“Most customers are now using our mobile banking app, Internet Banking or calling us instead, which means they are using branches much less.
“Because of this, we’ll be closing our Station Lane Hornchurch branch.”
