Harlow Council’s Cabinet, at its meeting on September 11, is set to approve a new proposal to fast-track decision-making and quicken the town’s reconstruction.
The Town Centre Strategy puts forward a streamlined process to hasten approvals and eliminate delays, ensuring present regeneration efforts maintain steady momentum.
This will include everything from the bus station demolition to the redesign of Market Square, Broad Walk, and the Playhouse Quarter.
The new approach promises to make the rebuilding of the town centre – already in progress – even more rapid.
If approved, the proposal will also unlock additional funds for further regeneration, which will enhance the transformation of key sites such as Adams House and Market House.
Councillor Dan Swords, leader of Harlow Council, said: “We are delivering the most ambitious regeneration programme of any district council in the country – reversing years of decline and finally giving our town centre the future it deserves.
“But I know our residents want to see this transformation even faster – and they are right.
“This is about more than bricks and mortar – it’s about restoring pride, opportunity, and belief in the heart of our town.”
The council hopes this strategy will yield rapid results and reinstate pride in the town centre.
