Age UK Barnet’s Silver Sunday event is on October 5 at Middlesex University.
Silver Sunday is now in its 13th year, a national day to celebrate older people staying socially connected and overcoming loneliness or isolation.
Age UK Barnet is arranging live music and dance performances, a disco, workshops, health checks and advice sessions at the university’s Hendon campus from 11am to 3pm.
“We ran the largest Silver Sunday celebration in the country last year that attracted 700 people,” Age UK Barnet’s Helen Newman said.
“Silver Sunday is a reminder that older people are a vibrant, essential part of our community.
“It’s about coming together, making new friends, trying something different and above all feeling valued and celebrated.”
There’s also a serious side with a talk on social connections by neuroscientist Professor Catherine Loveday.
Age UK is working with businesses, organisations and community groups for this year’s celebration with refreshments and a light lunch also being served up.
