Redbridge Council has announced plans to expand its existing network of 24 allotment sites, all of which it says are full, with long waiting lists reflecting high demand across the borough.
As part of the Fairlop Waters Masterplan, the council will allocate additional land for new allotments.
Council leader Kam Rai said: “Our allotments are incredibly popular and every council site in Redbridge is full, which tells you everything about the demand we are seeing locally.
“We are proud to protect these much-loved spaces and to expand them where we can, starting with new provision through our Fairlop Waters masterplan.
“This is about investing in the things that matter to people and keeping Redbridge a great place to live.”
The council said the new spaces will give more residents the opportunity to grow their own fruit and vegetables, enjoy outdoor activities, and connect with the wider community.
It also highlighted the broader benefits of allotments, including promoting healthier lifestyles, reducing social isolation and supporting biodiversity.
