John Lyon School, in Harrow, published its results for the 2025 cohort on Thursday, August 21.
The school says “41 per cent of all grades awarded” were grades 9 to 8, while “62 per cent of students achieved grades 9 to 7.”
“Seventeen per cent of all grades awarded” were grade 9.
John Lyon students sat GCSEs in 19 subjects across the arts, sciences, humanities, and languages.
Subject highlights included 52 per cent of grades in mathematics at grades 9 to 8, 39 per cent in biology, 38 per cent in chemistry and physics, and 63 per cent of grades in geography.
The school also reported “excellent results” in modern foreign languages and design and technology, with 30 per cent of design and technology students achieving grade 9.
The school says these results follow the “outstanding A Level outcomes” announced last week, when sixth form students achieved John Lyon’s best performance since 2017.
Head Mrs Rose Hardy said: “Following last week’s commendable A Level outcomes, our pupils’ GCSE grades demonstrate the continued upward trajectory of John Lyon school’s academic strength.
“These results reflect the commitment and hard work of our pupils, supported by the dedication and expertise of our staff.
“It is particularly pleasing to see such consistent success across a wide range of disciplines – from mathematics and the sciences, to humanities, languages, and the arts.
“These achievements provide our students with a firm foundation for the next stage of their education in our dedicated sixth form, where we are confident they will continue to excel.”
John Lyon school was founded in 1876 and provides education for boys and girls aged 2 to 18, from nursery through to sixth form.
It offers a broad curriculum that includes the arts, sciences, humanities, and languages, and achieved “notable outcomes across” all subjects.
John Lyon school says the latest results highlight “the strong and sustained academic progress across all year groups.”
