Barking and Dagenham Council approved the application to open a restaurant and hot food takeaway at seven Tide Street, on August 12.
Plans were submitted by agent Zanoply, outlining the intention to build a “high quality dining establishment” in an vacant commercial unit.
The unit is on the ground floor of Herring Court, at the junction between Tide Street and Mast Street.
The restaurant will provide hot food for consumption primarily on the premises, according to planning documents.
The internal layout has been designed for “efficient” operation and a “high-quality” customer experience, with a “well-equipped” kitchen, a dining area and toilet.
The plans do not state what type of restaurant this will be.
The documents said the external appearance of the building will stay largely unchanged with some changes to ventilation ducts and air conditioning units.
In the council’s officer report, it said: “Officers consider that such a use could generate footfall in the town centre, thereby increasing its vitality.
“Therefore, the proposal is considered acceptable in principle, which would boost commercial vitality and prosperity of the town centre and the Gascoigne Estate.”
The report showed that the Metropolitan Police, Be First Transport, and LBBD Environmental Protection Team had no objections to the application.
Zanoply has been contacted for a comment.
