Frames Sports Bar, located on 202 Brighton Road, announced on August 7 that it will close permanently on September 1.
The decision, which was described as not an easy one, comes after the landlord took possession of the neighbouring units, formerly Mirch Masala and Thai Venue, both of which have been vacant for some time.
The bar’s owners said they wanted to invest in the club to improve it, but the lease terms offered by the landlord made it “commercially unviable” to continue trading.
Frames Sports Bar have revealed plans to open a new sports bar in Woking in West Surrey, in partnership with professional snooker player Jimmy White.
The new venue, Jimmy White’s Sports Lounge, aims to promote snooker and enhance the customer experience.
Members of Frames Sports Bar will be contacted soon about transferring their memberships to the new club.
The owners thanked their customers for years of support and encouraged them to keep using Frames Sports Bar until its closure next September.
In a statement posted on Facebook by the owners, they said: “We have so many fond memories of you all over the years and we thank you for your ongoing support.
“It wasn’t an easy decision after serving the community for so many years, but sadly, the decision was out of our control.
“The investment we wanted to make in the club and the lease term the landlord was prepared to grant, sadly, did not make it commercially viable to continue.
“The landlord has already secured possession of the premises on both sides of the club, formerly Mirch Masala and Thai Venue. Both units have been vacant for some time now.
“On a more positive note, we are delighted to announce that we are teaming up with the legendary Jimmy White to open a brand- new Sports Bar in Woking, Surrey.
“The initiative is designed to promote snooker and enhance our customers level of experience at all levels.
“We are committed to building stronger relationships with all our valued clients and we invite you to join us on this exciting project.
“We open the doors to our new plush venue, Jimmy White’s Sports Lounge on in September – watch this space for more details!
“We are currently working to transfer paid members to the new club and we will be in contact in due course.
“For now, nothing will change noticeably at Frames Sports Bar, so we urge you to use the club as much as possible until we close on 1st September 2025.
“Once again, thank you very much for helping us create so many fantastic memories over the years:- we honestly couldn’t have done it without you all.”
We have contacted the landlord for a comment.
