Waltham Forest Council is calling for tenants to review and comment on the proposed changes via a public consultation.
The updated policy covers a range of areas including the types of tenancies issued, handling of sole and joint tenancy switches, and procedures surrounding relationship breakdowns.
It also addresses the transfer of tenancy rights, support for vulnerable tenants, the prevention of unnecessary evictions, and the council’s stance on tenancy fraud and abandoned properties.
The council has already integrated feedback from residents into the draft policy.
A spokesperson said: “Your input and insights are crucial in shaping our policy and helping ensure that we effectively support tenants to sustain their tenancies.”
The consultation is open to current and prospective council tenants residing in council-managed homes.
The council’s aims include ensuring the policy clearly explains the types of tenancies offered and the circumstances under which changes can be requested.
It also wants to gauge whether its proposed support measures for tenants are appropriate and identify any areas needing clarification or improvement.
The feedback gathered will directly influence the final version of the policy.
The survey is available online, and respondents are advised not to include personal information in their answers.
