The Chough, in Eastham Crescent, is set to undergo a “major” renovation and rebrand – and will soon be known as The Royal Oak.
Owner Star Pubs, part of Heineken UK, has announced that building works for the refurb are due to start later this month.
A spokesperson said: “We can confirm that building work is on track to start at the end of August on an exciting refurbishment of The Chough.”

The renovation will include new signage, refreshed interiors, and enhanced outdoor areas like the garden and car park.

This aims to ensure “The Royal Oak becomes a welcoming space for locals, from families to sports enthusiasts”, according to Star Pubs.
Its website added that the installation of a new dartboard setup with electronic scorer and halo light will also be part of the refurbishment.
The chain was previously looking to recruit a new operator for the boozer – at an annual rent of £33,500 – but it is unclear if tenants have now been found.
Star Pubs bought The Chough from Punch Taverns in 2017, and says it is the only pub serving the housing estate it sits on.
