Police were called to a footpath off Perry Street, Crayford, last Monday (August 4) at around 5pm following the reports.
The street runs along the east boundary of Barnehurst Golf Club.
Following the investigation, two 17-year-old boys have been arrested on suspicion of raping a female under 16.
One of the two boys was also arrested on suspicion of intentional strangulation.
They have since been bailed while enquiries continue.
It is understood the boys are from Bexley and Hemel Hempstead.
Police have confirmed that the two are not asylum seekers, following widespread false speculation online suggesting this was the case.
The online gossip claimed that the suspects were from a block of flats allegedly being used by asylums seekers, although it has since been confirmed that the block in question is not being used to house them.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “Officers have arrested two 17-year-old boys in connection with a rape investigation in Barnehurst.
