Lord Sarfraz, a member of the House of Lords and former trade envoy, has taken on the role.
His appointment comes as UEL continues to pursue its Vision 2028 initiative, a 10-year strategy aimed at establishing the institution as the UK’s leading careers-first university.
Professor Amanda Broderick, vice chancellor and president of UEL, said: “Lord Sarfraz’s appointment as chancellor is a celebratory moment for the university.
“He shares our deep commitment to building a careers-first environment where students from all backgrounds can thrive, and his leadership on sustainability mirrors our goal of achieving net zero carbon by 2030.”

In addition to his new role, Lord Sarfraz remains active in various sectors.
He is a venture capitalist and founder of NetZeroAg, a company supporting sustainable farming, as well as serving as a senior advisor to several publicly listed technology companies.
He holds degrees from Boston University, the London School of Economics, and the Royal College of Defence Studies.
