Now, the pub in Malden Road, Kentish Town reopened in late July under fresh management with a slightly different name and plans for a game room.
Rebranded as The Gipsy Queen Tavern, it’s said to be operated by South London pub company Clapham Leisure, which runs a string of coffee shops and pubs south of the river
Posting on Instagram they wrote: “Your Neighbourhood pub is back with 23 awesome taps cocktails and great food.”
Sharing a reel of punters enjoying the Lionesses’ Euros win they said: “And we are open! What a first week finishing on a high with the football celebrations! Thanks to all who came! Pop in again soon! Food coming August and games room shortly after!”
The Gipsy Queen only unveiled a new look last October, including a revamped garden, a secret karaoke room, and an updated menu.
But despite running quiz nights, comedy, music and drag events, the boozer closed its doors on May 21, going “out with a bang” with the Tottenham v Manchester United Europa League final.
In a post on Instagram its then landlords The Parker Pub Company, which also runs the Victoria Stakes pub in Muswell Hill, announced: “It is with a heavy heart that we must tell you, our fellow friends and cherished regulars, that May 21 will be our last day trading at the Gipsy Queen.
“We are sad to leave the pub we have called our home for the last nine years. We have countless stories and made treasured memories with you all. Please join us for a final farewell and raise a glass to the glorious Gipsy Queen.”
A pub has stood on the site since the 1880s, with the current building dating back to the 1930s. For 22 years it was run by Irish landlords who renamed it The Westport Inn, then it had a brief spell as The Bluebell, before reverting to its current name in 2015.
