While the tunnel has reopened, the airport is still causing some disruption, with passengers advised to allow extra time for getting to the airport.
The Central Terminal Area tunnel being closed meant that passengers were redirected to Terminal 5 instead of Terminal 2 and 3, reports The Mirror.
This tunnel closure meant traffic piled up on the M4 as passengers made their way to Heathrow Airport, the newspaper explains.
The main road tunnel to Terminals 2 and 3 has now reopened following an earlier technical issue.

What happened at Heathrow Airport today?
Today, Heathrow Airport experienced a “technical issue” and it apologised “for the disruption” caused for those making their way to the airport.
According to The Mirror, passengers found themselves stuck and waiting on trains for more than 30 minutes while the issue was ongoing.
Some even left the cars they were travelling in and walked the rest of the way to the airport to avoid sitting in traffic queues and missing their flights.
One passenger shared their experience to X, writing: “Chaos at #HeathrowAirport. Hundreds of us funneled into a hot, cramped tunnel, missed flights, folks fainting and tons of anger and tears. Flight crews delayed and security a nightmare”, adding pictures of passengers waiting about.
