Barking and Dagenham Council has approved plans to demolish Barking Football Supporters Club, in Movers Lane, and build a four-storey block of flats.
The application – submitted by Stanford Eatwell Architecture on behalf of Sarah Bradley – includes nine new homes, consisting of four one-bed flats, three two-bed flats and two three-bed flats.
Each flat will have its own balcony, as well as a shared outdoor space to the southeast of the site.

No car parking spaces are proposed as part of the plans, and therefore the dropped kerb outside the property will be reinstated, according to the planning officer’s report.
The report also reveals that several objections were received about the loss of a community space and the extra pressure new houses would put on infrastructure in the area.
However, the planning officer concluded that, as the supporters club has been empty for two years, the building is “underutilised”.
The report said: “While the scheme results in the loss of a former community use, the building has been vacant since 2023, and the applicant has demonstrated that the use has ceased and been reprovided elsewhere locally.
“The development would positively contribute to the borough’s housing supply at a time of significant under-delivery and includes a good mix of unit sizes, including much-needed family homes.”
