Barbara Kasumu is taking over as interim chief executive for the charity’s relaunch.
She was previously the executive director of charities at Guy’s & St Thomas’ Foundation, reorganising its three charities into a single structure that helped raise more than £25million.
Now she hopes to do the same for King George and Queen’s Hospitals Charity.
“It has potential to make a difference to staff and patients,” she said.
“I’ve seen first-hand the role philanthropy plays in improving health over and above what government funding can provide. I will be leading the organisation through this critical transition.”
Barbara joins as the charity becomes independent from Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust (BHRUT), with its own board of trustees.
BHRUT chief executive Matthew Trainer said: “Barbara has huge amounts of experience in the charity sector and a strong fundraising background and I look forward to the plans and ideas she will bring to our charity.”
