Zen Records, a cornerstone of Tottenham’s music scene, will shut this autumn, marking the end of an era for vinyl lovers and the wider community.
The record shop has served the community for 30 years. (Image: Google Maps) Located at 69 Broad Lane, the shop is closing because owner Robert Douglas is stepping down for health reasons.
A statement shared on Instagram said: “Robert came from the vibrant sound system scene, playing out regularly before deciding to dedicate his life to sharing music instead of spinning it.
“With a passion and knowledge that only true connoisseurs possess, he opened Zen Records and the rest is local music history.”
The shop has announced a series of live DJ sets in the lead-up to its closure, all to be broadcast from the shop floor.
The next event will take place on Saturday, August 9, with the final set scheduled for Saturday, September 6.
Both will begin at 1pm and will feature DJs who have been part of Zen’s extended community.
The statement said: “A line-up of DJs – friends, customers and musical kindred spirits – will each play a small set live from the shop floor, in tribute to the community Zen has created.”
