Inspectors praised Wood Field Primary School’s ambitious ethos, exceptional teaching and positive environment.
The school on Stanley Park Road’s motto, “we are limitless,” sets the tone for what Ofsted called a “vibrant, happy and inclusive school” where pupils thrive both academically and personally.
Inspectors found that children across all year groups achieve “extremely well” and benefit from a curriculum that goes beyond national expectations.
From their earliest days in the classroom, pupils are nurtured by strong relationships and inspired by high expectations.
Staff are praised for their clarity, subject knowledge and ability to support every child including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities, who receive “highly effective support” both in class and through the school’s specialist provision, Oak Field.
Reading is described as the cornerstone of the curriculum, with children gaining confidence and fluency from the start.
Ofsted noted the school’s success in developing a genuine love of reading, supported by author visits and trips to the local library.
Behaviour and attitudes were found to be exemplary and pupils are described as “courteous, considerate and keen to do well”, and staff provide “helpful and effective support” whenever challenges arise.
The school also impressed inspectors with its “exemplary” personal development programme, which helps pupils grow into “inquisitive, respectful and worldly” individuals through meaningful learning experiences and community engagement.
Beyond the classroom, pupils at Wood Field are immersed in a vibrant school life enriched by a wide range of clubs and activities.
From chess and football to crochet, children are encouraged to explore their interests and develop new skills.
These opportunities help foster confidence, creativity and a strong sense of community. Older pupils play an active role in school life, taking on responsibilities as playground monitors, school councillors and librarians.
In doing so, they act as excellent role models for younger peers, demonstrating leadership, kindness and a deep commitment to their school.
Wood Field is part of the Greenshaw Learning Trust and Inspectors found that leaders across the school and trust “aspire for pupils to achieve highly and to become responsible citizens”.
Headteacher Laura Rodger said: “We are incredibly proud of this outcome, which recognises the relentless hard work and commitment of our staff, pupils and families. Every day, we work to ensure that every child is seen, supported, and stretched, because we truly believe they are limitless.”
Liz Easaw, Director of Primary Education, said: “Wood Field Primary School is an exceptional place where children learn with joy and purpose.
“Laura and her team have built a culture of high ambition, kindness and care. This Ofsted judgement reflects the very best of what primary education can offer.”
