The national paper recently published a list of the 41 best ice cream parlours across the UK, and three local favourites made the cut.
Here’s where to head if you’re craving a proper ice cream in south east London:
Sundae, Brockley
Small but mighty, Sundae is a gelato gem tucked away in Brockley, where every batch is churned fresh in-house.
Flavours are bold and inventive – think summer berry cheesecake, Guinness, dark chocolate and orange, and the occasional special like fig and mascarpone.
The parlour is run by a husband-and-wife team who’ve been scooping since 2019. Sharing the news of their recognition on Instagram, they wrote: “As a husband-and-wife duo, watching our gelato business grow since 2019 has brought us immense joy.
“We take continued pride in using quality, often locally sourced ingredients… It is a joy to serve the Brockley community.”
Minus 12 Degrees, Herne Hill
Locals might not thank The Times for shining a spotlight on this one – Minus 12 Degrees is something of a neighbourhood secret, located inside Herne Hill Railway Station.
Expect rich gelato and zingy sorbets, plus creative specials like pistachio with kataifi and classic chocolate.
Founder Gavin started his gelato journey in Sydney in 2012 during a working holiday visa. Inspired by Australia’s gelato scene, he trained professionally and now brings that know-how back to south east London.
“Since then, I have spent time researching, training and travelling to improve my knowledge and skills,” he says.
Fabulous Ice Fires, East Dulwich
This East Dulwich spot might look modest from the outside — but don’t be fooled. Fabulous Ice Fires, run by Taseer Ahmad, has been serving world-class gelato for a decade and picking up international awards along the way.
Located at 54 East Dulwich Road, this parlour is more than just a shop – it’s part gelateria, part experimental lab, and part community staple.
This weekend marks its 10th anniversary, and if you haven’t popped in before, now’s the time.
