The change affects the stretch between the Picardy Manorway roundabout and the exit slip road for Lower Road.
It’s part of a culvert replacement project being carried out by Zack Contractors for Bexley Council.
The temporary speed limit is in place to protect both workers and road users.
The works are expected to last around 120 days, although the traffic order allows restrictions to remain for up to 18 months if needed.
Parking and loading are also banned from today on Church Manorway for 80 metres from the junction with Lower Road to help keep the area clear.
There are no road closures or diversions, but drivers are being urged to follow signs and take extra care through the work zone.
