The incident happened at the junction of Ley Street and Myrtle Road at around 4.30pm yesterday (July 1).
Officers attended along with London Ambulance Service and the junction was closed to traffic.
The man was rushed to hospital with a serious head injury where he later died.
Police are treating the death as “unexpected” and are investigating the circumstances of the death.
A Met spokesperson said: “Around 16:30hrs on Tuesday, 1 July, police were called to the junction of Ley Street and Myrtle Road, Ilford, following reports that a person had fallen from a height.
“Officers attended with the London Ambulance Service.
“A man, aged in his 20s, was taken to hospital, where he was sadly pronounced dead.
“The death is being treated as unexpected, and enquiries are ongoing to determine the circumstances.”
A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 4.35pm yesterday (1 July) to reports of a person who had fallen from height in Ley Street, Ilford.
“We sent ambulance crews, paramedics in fast response cars and an incident response officer to the scene.
“We also dispatched a trauma team in a car from London’s Air Ambulance.
“The first paramedic arrived in around five minutes.
“We treated a patient at the scene for a serious head injury and took him to a major trauma centre as a priority.”
