Ronnie and Roxy Mitchell, played by popular actresses Samantha Womack and Rita Simons, first arrived in Albert Square in 2007.
The characters tragically died on New Year’s Day 2017, with the episode still remaining as one of the most talked about in the show’s history.
Fans didn’t hide their upset over the pair’s exit and have often hoped for a return – and now they think they could be on to something.
Taking to X, formerly Twitter, users were quick to comment on Rita Simons quitting her role in Hollyoaks.
Simons is saying goodbye to the Channel 4 soap after her 18-month stint, where she has played a major role in some of the show’s most recent storylines.
The 48-year-old will film her final scenes this summer for them to play out in autumn, taking to her Instagram to say that “London and my true home is calling” after moving to Liverpool two years ago.
Fans speculate Ronnie and Roxy’s EastEnders return
Simons’ departure was quick to gain attention from EastEnders fans who were eager to speculate Roxy’s comeback alongside Ronnie.

Another added: “Rita Simons quitting Hollyoaks only means one thing- Roxy and Ronnie Mitchell rise from the dead challenge x”
Others reacted in a similar way, tagging in EastEnders’ new executive producer Ben Wadey, saying: “Revive Roxy and Ronnie immediately. I don’t care how you do it, just do it.”
“It’s time. We want the full Mitchell family back in #EastEnders — Phil, Grant, Sam, Ronnie and Roxy.”
