‘Nancy Spains Monument is great for a lively post-work pint’

My colleagues and I popped into the quaint pub in central London and were greeted with an Irish welcome from the get go.

Opposite Sky Garden and round the corner from the Monument, Nancy Spains is tucked away – so much so that we struggled to find it at first.

Once inside, however, we were transported from the busy streets of the capital to the cosiness of a traditional Irish boozer.

A wood panelled bar lined one side of the room, while the other was kitted out to look like an old pantry with faded shelves filled with knick-knacks and quality street tins.

A sky light brightened the centre of the room and in the corner was a little stage for live music.

We perched at one of the few tables scattered around the room; most of the space was left open for dancing.

A drink that impressed was a pint of Murphy’s, but there were also ciders on tap and a selection of spirits and whiskeys.

Our evening was soundtracked by some very lively Irish music, and punters were soon up and dancing.

Nancy Spains is definitely not the type of pub for a quiet drink.
