The chase began around 4.20pm on Cathall Road in Leytonstone, before moving onto the nearby A12.

A video taken by a driver shows a white car being driven the wrong way down the A12 and weaving between oncoming traffic.

This ended when the car being pursued crashed into a police car near the Green Man Roundabout around 4.40pm.

Traffic ground to a halt on the busy A12, giving stationary drivers an opportunity to capture the wreckage of the collision.

Two police cars are seen damaged on separate sides of the road and a third white car is also heavily damaged.

Two officers were confirmed to have been injured in the crash – one with a suspected fractured arm.

The driver of the other car and two passenger were also sent to hospital as a precaution.

The driver has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and remains in police custody.

The air ambulance, paramedics and fire service all attended the scene and the A12 has now reopened.

The London Ambulance Service was also contacted for more information.

A Met Police spokesperson said: “At approximately 16:22hrs on Tuesday, 10 June a pursuit was authorised after a car made off from police on Cathall Road, E11.

“At approximately 16:38hrs, the car collided with a police vehicle on the A12 near the Green Man Roundabout, E11.

“The London Ambulance Service, London Fire Brigade, and London’s Air Ambulance attended.

“The driver and two passengers of the car were taken to hospital as a precaution.

“The driver of the car has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and remains in police custody.

“Two officers were also taken to hospital, one with a suspected fractured arm.

“Enquiries continue.”
