A casualty on the tracks was reported between Basildon and Pitsea at around 11.30am yesterday (June 8).
Officers and paramedics attended, however, the person was pronounced dead shortly after.
The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.
Services running across the whole c2c network were cancelled with delays lasting until 3pm.
A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: “Officers were called at around 11.30am yesterday (8 June) to reports of a casualty on the tracks on the line between Basildon and Pitsea.
“Officers responded but sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
