Barking and Dagenham schools pitch movie ideas

An enterprise pitch day was staged showing the creativity of pupils from eight schools in Barking and Dagenham.

Youngsters put their schemes forward to a panel of judges from the film industry who selected a primary and a secondary school with the best ideas to be transformed professionally into reality.

They spent a day learning about locations, studios and lighting — all part of Barking and Dagenham Council’s project to turn the area into a ‘little Hollywood’ and get producers to “make it here” as a platform for future school leavers to get into the industry.

“This event showed pupils’ ability to think outside the box and bring their visions to life,” Cllr Elizabeth Kangethe said. “We are encouraging them to pursue their dreams and make an impact on the world of film.”

Judges included Wild Indie Sci-Fi Festival founder and film director Gavin Saville, composer Bankey Ojo, TV presenter Jules Hardy, producer Daisy Ifama and British Film Institute’s Aleks Dimitrijevic.
