Police were called to a crash involving a motorbike on the westbound A12 flyover at Lea Interchange at 6.15pm yesterday evening (May 10).
The motorcyclist, a 30-year-old man from Camden, was treated by London Ambulance Service and London Air Ambulance.
He died a short time later at the scene, on a section of the dual carriageway between Hackney Wick and Leyton.
His next of kin have been informed of his death, and police are now appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
Detective Sergeant Rob Groombridge, who is leading the Met investigation, said that his thoughts are with the motorcyclist’s family and friends “at this incredibly difficult time”.
He added: “We are working at pace to identify what happened on the A12 yesterday evening, and would encourage anyone who witnesses the incident, or who was in the surrounding area, to please come forward and speak to us.
“I’m particularly interested in any dashcam footage from drivers who were in the area between 6pm and 6.30pm yesterday.
“Any piece of information could be vital in helping us understand exactly what happened.”
