Chris Carle lives in a flat in Scrattons Farm Estate in Barking with his wife and young children.
He said across the 14 years of living here, he has never encountered a major problem but in the past three years, a “disgusting” fly infestation outside the building has arisen.
“We can’t have our windows or doors open – within the time you’ve opened a door to leave the house or let somebody in you’ll have 15 to 20 flies come into the house,” Chris said.
“Where it’s been warm over the last couple of weeks, we haven’t even been able to have a window open because the flies will come in.

Chris claimed to have “no idea” where the flies have come from and said he has not noticed any changes in the surrounding area that may have caused the insects to appear.

He also claimed to have reached out for help multiple times but insists nothing has been done about the issue.
“We’ve gone to the council, the Environment Agency, MPs but nobody seems to want to do anything about it,” he said.
“We need to find out where the flies are coming from and I want to know what’s going to happen about it.

A Barking and Dagenham Council spokesperson said: “The council is carrying out an investigation to identify and address the source of reported flies at Scrattons Farm Estate.
“We’re working with the Environment Agency to investigate nearby permitted waste sites to assess if they are contributing to the reported increases in flies.
“Inspectors were in the area this week making environmental observations and we encourage residents to report issues both to the council and the Environment Agency.
“This will support us to develop a broader picture of reports and weather conditions, to identify the source of the insects, and to then carry out appropriate enforcement.”
