Emergency services were called to Purley Road, just off Purley Way, yesterday (May 7) at 11.13pm to reports of the crash.
The driver, a man in his 20s, was declared dead at the scene.
According to the Metropolitan Police, the crash involved one vehicle.
Officers are now investigating into the matter and any witnesses or people with dashcam footage are asked to come forward.
Purley Way has remained closed for 11 hours both ways from Pampisford Road to Edgehill Road.
Both the 289 and 439 bus routes are being detoured from the area as a result.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “Police were called at 23:15hrs on Wednesday, 7 May following reports of a single vehicle collision Purley Way, Croydon.
“Officers attended with the London Ambulance Service.
“The driver, a man in his 20s was sadly declared dead at the scene.
“The road remained closed overnight whilst officers carried out enquiries.”
