Police have taped off Purley Way, with cars blocking off much of the road today (May 8).

The cordon has been in place since emergency services were first called to reports of a single-vehicle crash at 11.13pm last night (May 7).

The driver, a man in his 20s, was declared dead at the scene.

Police blocking off roads in PurleyPolice blocking off roads in Purley (Image: Alessio Galeone) A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “Police were called at 23:15hrs on Wednesday, 7 May following reports of a single vehicle collision Purley Way, Croydon. 

“Officers attended with the London Ambulance Service. 

“The driver, a man in his 20s was sadly declared dead at the scene. 

“The road remained closed overnight whilst officers carried out enquiries.”
