A two-day public exhibition is being staged by Rainham local historians Richard and Kim Smith in Hornchurch Country Park.
The RAF Hornchurch airfield was on the front-line during the Battle of Britain, defending the nation against the threat of German invasion in the Second World War.

Britain rejoiced in a national frenzy in May 1945 to mark the Allies’ victory over Nazi Germany, with parties and dancing in the streets.
Kim, who has researched the role of women during wartime, will put on a Home Front display of how families coped with food rationing and household shortages.
Also taking part are the Royal British Legion, the Spitfire Society and Air Cadets from Elm Park, along with a display of military vehicles and music from the 1940s.
The exhibition runs 10am to 4pm on May 10 and 11, entry £2 (children free), at the Ingrebourne Valley Centre in Squadrons Approach, Hornchurch.
