Newham Council has approved a £2.1million contract with General Demolition Ltd to carry out enabling works at the tower block.
The company was selected through a tender process that assessed five bids on quality, price, and social value.
The works will prepare the building for future construction and can begin despite full vacant possession not yet being achieved.
An exclusion zone has been approved around the remaining leaseholder’s flat to ensure safe access while work takes place.

The contractor will complete any remaining works once the building is fully vacated, the council said.
The project will deliver 132 new ‘affordable’ rent homes and replace four leaseholder properties, kickstarting the wider Carpenters masterplan.
Authority to award the contract was first delegated by cabinet back in July 2021, with follow-up decisions made in March 2021 and February 2025.
These decisions cleared the way for enabling works to proceed ahead of the main development, subject to planning consent and a positive resident ballot.
Populo Living, the council’s housing company, is overseeing the scheme.
The wider Carpenters Estate regeneration is earmarked to deliver more than 2,100 homes as well as a new building crafts college, cafes, restaurants, shops and workshop spaces.
