The Duckwood Inn was opened on the corner of Whitchurch Road and Wigton Way in the August of 1955.
Architect Brian D. Kett was responsible for the watering hole’s design, with the name taking inspiration from the local woodland formed of Duck Wood trees.
It was a former Manns Brewery venue leased from London County Council at the time.
According to Havering Libraries, Romford Rugby Club made themselves quite at home at The Duckwood, even using it as their headquarters.
But it was not just rugby that was welcomed at the pub.
In 1967 archives from the library record that the Mann’s darts team national champions’ trophy was put on proud display in the saloon bar.
A trophy for footballer of the year of the Romford Sunday League was also recorded.
The Duckwood experimented with a brief name change to Drakes in the 1980s, but soon changed back to its original name.
It is understood to have been the only London County Council pub in Harold Hill to stray from its founding name.
Decades lates in 2010, boarding went up on the pub and it ceased trading.

In 2012, a planning application was received seeking permission to “Demolish existing public house and erect a terrace of 6 houses”.
The plans were approved and demolition got underway in January 2013.
The terrace of homes were then occupied by 2016.
