Izaiah Smith was pulled from the lake in Beckenham Place Park, just after 10.40pm on April 4 more than seven hours after police began searching for him.
A GoFundMe page has since been set up by the parents of children and staff at Kingsdale Foundation School in West Dulwich.
On the page, his family said that Izaiah was a rising football talent who poured his passion into sports, striving daily to grow both on and off the field.
They said: “It is with profound sorrow that we share the passing of our beloved Izaiah; cherished son, brother, cousin, nephew, classmate, and friend.
“His bright future was tragically cut short in a drowning accident, leaving an irreplaceable void in the lives of all who knew him.
“His legacy is one of love, perseverance, and the joy he brought to every moment and everyone.
“We have been deeply comforted by the outpouring of love and support during this unimaginable time.
“To those who have already reached out with kindness, we extend our deepest gratitude.
“Your love has been a beacon of strength and light in our darkest hours.”
In a statement on X, Izaiah’s team, Dorking Wanderers FC, said they are devastated to hear the passing of one their players.
The post said: “It is of course impossible to find the words to explain what a tragedy this is.
“Izaiah was a hugely popular and talented young man and will be sorely missed by all that knew him.
“The club will provide support for all involved in whatever way we possibly can.
“In the meantime all of our thoughts are with his family, friends and teammates at this incredibly difficult time.”
Dozens of videos have been shared on TikTok over the weekend, with schoolfriends posting clips and memories of Izaiah, accompanied by emotional messages and tributes.
On Facebook, hundreds of condolences have also been left under a News Shopper post linking to the original story about the incident, with people across London and beyond sending thoughts to Izaiah’s family and friends.
One person wrote, “a much-loved young person gone too soon,” while another said, “Thinking of his family and friends.”
Many others echoed similar sentiments, keeping Izaiah’s loved ones in their thoughts.
A Met spokesperson previously said Izaiah was recovered from the water and taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
His death is being treated as unexpected but not suspicious.
A Lewisham Council spokesperson said the lake would remain closed with security in place “until further notice”.
