Under new plans submitted to Greenwich Council, the Who’d A Thought It in Timbercroft Lane would be reduced in size to make space for six new homes.
Planners have previously thrown out proposals submitted in 2021 and 2023 which would have seen the pub completely demolished.
The pub is locally listed, which means it is considered to be of significance to the local community.
Two years ago, the council said that it could not justify the harm demolishing the entire pub would cause to both the locally listed building and conservation area.
The latest plans propose retaining the “historic core” of the building, allowing a pub to continue to operate at the site.
A report attached with the planning application suggests that the pub, which is described as being in a “poor state of repair”, is “no longer economically viable” in its current form.
It states that the pub has been on the market with a £1.2 million price tag since 2017, but had received no “reasonable” offers in that time.
During this period, the pub has continued to operate, although it has suffered from sporadic closures.
The six homes planned for the site would include one detached family house, as well as a terrace of three houses, some of which will be split into flats.
