We’ve put together a list of five places across Havering where you can get a roast and celebrate your mum this Sunday (March 30).
1. The Jobber’s Rest
Located in St Mary’s Lane, Upminster, The Jobber’s Rest is just one option for a Mother’s Day meal.
It is first thought to have been opened in around 1871, having been transformed from a single terraced cottage.
The current pub building dates back to the 20th century.
It has received several positive TripAdvisor reviews so far this year, with a number of compliments for its roast dinners.

“Service was brilliant throughout and our server was fantastic with my elderly mother.”
2. Toby Carvery, Romford
One of the chain’s locations can be found at The Brewery shopping centre and has also had its roasts mentioned in TripAdvisor reviews.
One reviewer visited in February and wrote: “This is the third time me and my partner have been here for a Sunday roast.
“We were served by Jill who was amazing despite the restaurant being very busy she made sure we were enjoying our meal and had everything we needed. Was lovely!”
3. The Ship
Located in Main Road, Gidea Park, The Ship offers roast dinners from its independently run pub with a heritage spanning 250 years.
Despite its impressive age, the pub claims it “still retains its picture postcard appearance, which is the embodiment of Old English style” with old wooden beams and character.
One reviewer visited the watering hole for a roast in September last year and left a positive roast review.
They wrote: “One of the things on our ‘to do list’ was to have a Sunday roast.

“The Ship has the lovely feel and decor of a traditional English pub. Really homely and welcoming! The food was absolutely delicious, and there was most definitely both quantity and quality!”
General reviews from this year have also been positive.
4. The Top Oak
Located in the village of Stapleford Abbotts near Romford, The Top Oak is another well-rated spot for a Sunday roast.
This medieval 16th century pub is said to have been newly refurbished with modern touches.
Julie Anthony visited the pub in February and wrote on TripAdvisor: “Just had a excellent roast dinner here with my hubby. The food was 5 stars, everything cooked perfectly.”

5. Osteria Due Amici
An Italian restaurant in Corbets Tey Road, Upminster may seem an unlikely spot for a roast dinner, but Osteria Due Amici is an exception.
The family-run restaurant has been praised in reviews on TripAdvisor.
