Michael Obiora, who started his career as a child actor in Grange Hill and went on to star in shows including Luther and Doctor Who, is set to release Zee Zee the Humble Bee on March 28, 2025.
The Barnet-based actor and author was motivated to write the book after a teacher’s comment about his success as a child star left him feeling “devastated.”
Mr Obiora recalls the incident, which took place when he was 11, as he was walking down the corridor of his secondary school.
A teacher was walking towards him and when their eyes met, she said “Michael, why are you smiling? The cameras aren’t rolling now.”
He said: “I still remember exactly how I felt when she said this to me.
“Her comment devastated me.”
Now a father, Mr Obiora is keen to encourage children to “never dim their light to let others shine”.
His book, a rhyming story about a bee who is the fastest flyer, aims to teach children about the importance of confidence and humility.
Zee Zee the Humble Bee will be available for £7.99.
This will be Mr Obiora’s third book.
