The incident in Station Parade was reported to the Metropolitan Police at around 11.30pm on March 22.
Footage of the incident has been circling online and has been shared to social media, showing a man surrounded by a group.
The 23-year-old victim suffered minor injuries in the assault and also had his phone stolen.
Four boys including a 12-year-old and 16-year-old from Havering, a 14-year-old from Enfield, and a 16-year-old from East Ham were arrested at the scene on suspicion of robbery and assault.
They have all since been released on bail.
A Met spokesperson said: “Around 23:30hrs on Saturday, 22 March, police responded following reports that a man had been assaulted in Station Parade, Barking.

“The victim, a 23-year-old man, suffered minor injuries, and had his phone stolen.
“Four boys – a 14-year-old boy from Enfield, a 16-year-old from East Ham, a 16-year-old from Havering and a 12-year-old from Havering – were arrested at the scene on suspicion of robbery and assault.
“They have all been released on bail.”
