The ceremony was held in Redbridge Town Hall on March 12, following the announcement of the Young Citizen Awards.
In total, 42 individuals and groups were nominated for the awards with just ten named as community champions.

Stephen Hayden, a milkman, and Maria Sanchez, a key player in raising funds for the mayor’s chosen charities Saint Francis Hospice and Guide Dogs for the Blind, were each handed the mayor’s special awards.
Nominees named as community champions included a GP and a sports association for women of diverse ethnic backgrounds.

“Very often those making a difference to their local community remain anonymous but in giving these awards, we aim to celebrate and recognise the invaluable work that our people, groups, organisations and businesses do to help make Redbridge such a special place to live.
“We have a wonderful caring community in Redbridge and I would encourage everyone to follow our champions shining example and give their time and help to support others and make such a positive difference to our borough and community.”
