Around six fire engines and 40 firefighters have been called to The Balti Cottage in Goresbrook Road today (March 19) after eight calls were made at 1.49pm.
Dozens of firefighters tackled the blaze at the building, which has flats above.
The fire was eventually under control by 3.04pm, with no injuries reported.
Crews are still at the scene and disruption is still expected in the area.

Station Commander Mel Anderson, who was at the scene, said: “Crews worked swiftly to bring the fire under control and smoke has now reduced.
“Our operations are still creating some disruption in the local area, so please avoid Goresbrook Road where possible.”
