Steve Ball, director at Raise the Roofs London, said that his company had offered to fix the pothole on Jackass Lane for free due to the “great deal of local support.”
However, they were unable to proceed due to concerns about potential legal issues with Bromley Council.
Steve told the News Shopper: “We as a company offered to fix it free of charge and from that came a great deal of local support.
“Unfortunately, with fears of being sued by the council we were unable to assist.”
Raise the Roofs London posted about the pothole in a Facebook community group, sparking around 40 comments from locals.
Finally, on Tuesday, the pothole was fixed after three weeks of complaints from locals.
Steve said: “It’s amazing what social media does.
“We said we’d fix the pothole on Tuesday, and on Wednesday the council was there.
Steve said Raise the Roofs London were preparing to fix the pothole themselves, as he claims it would take just 15 minutes to repair.
But after discussion with people in the Facebook community group, the company said it would be a “little concerned” as it exposes them to Bromley Council.
On the Facebook page, Raise the Roofs added: “I too have noticed this extremely dangerous pothole and quite frankly I’ve never seen such a large hole in a public road, which is what has prompted me to offer this to the community.”
We reached out to Bromley Council for comment.
